PACIFIC PALISADES, CA – A cherished local institution since 1980, The Amazing Music Store was tragically destroyed in the Pacific Palisades fire on January 7, 2025. Founded by beloved music teacher Patrick Hildebrand Sr., the store served as a cultural cornerstone for more than four decades, inspiring generations of musicians and bringing joy to families throughout the Westside.

Patrick Sr. began teaching in the early 1970s after a career as a touring musician, working at Earl’s Bay Music and The Music Bag before founding his own studio on Swarthmore Avenue. His son, Patrick “PJ” Hildebrand Jr., joined him in 1989, and together, the two built a legacy of mentorship rooted in passion, patience, and community.

From beginner music lessons to professional music careers, the Hildebrands have shaped countless lives.

The store’s motto, “We love to teach,” was more than a catchphrase—it was a way of life. Through student showcases, street fair performances, and daily lessons, The Amazing Music Store became a second home to generations of Palisadians.

The fire also destroyed PJ’s newly launched electric bike business, Surron By The Sea. Despite the setback, the business is still thriving at its temporary location in Santa Monica’s Pico District and also offers mobile repair services. You can learn more about Surron By The Sea HERE.

The family is asking for the community’s help to relocate The Amazing Music Store to a safe, affordable space—ideally back in Pacific Palisades, within walking distance of local schools like Pali High and Palisades Elementary. Unfortunately, rising commercial rents and limited availability have made this dream difficult to realize thus far.
